Prompt: Transform +1, 144 words
Snippet from Beacon Gakuen 'verse.
When I was five or six, I was obsessed with butterflies. Other kids went around with their nets trying to catch beetles, and I was peering under every leaf and twig hoping to find a chrysalis.
My mother never seemed to mind when grocery runs were sidetracked with "short" trips to the park peering at the vegetation. My bedroom walls were plastered with butterfly drawings that I painstakingly traced from encyclopedias. When father commented on the butterfly explosion, she smiled and said she used to be the same way with dinosaurs.
I did find a chrysalis that summer--empty and discarded like torn scraps of paper. I brought it home, cupped carefully in my hands, and lined it up next to the river stones and seashells on my bookshelf.
Looking back, I wonder if I fixated on butterflies because of the transformation they undergo.

When his mother passed away, Stiles lost not one parent, but two. Without Isaac to occupy him, he would have felt the absence more keenly. As it was, he knew that his aunt and uncle felt obliged to do their duty by him, especially after his father passed away not a decade later. So Stiles was not exactly surprised to come home and find his uncle paying them a surprise visit.
"Uncle Christopher!" Stiles greeted him warmly. "What a pleasant surprise."
"Stiles," Christopher said, with that grave manner of his. "Your aunt and cousin send you their regards, and are looking forward to your long overdue visit to London."

Davenant, again. Every smile, every gentle look pressed on him that Stiles was turning away from him more and more. No matter what pretensions he had of being a lifelong friend of the Lanyons, he knew that he had no real claim on Stiles.
A cynical part of him thought that Davenant's offer to Isaac was made to tie Stiles further to his side. His brief acquaintance with the man didn't suggest any underhandedness, but Derek was not the best judge of character. He could in theory ask his mother, who was an excellent judge of character, but he was wary to open that line of conversation.

Later, when they were taking a stroll in the gardens, Stiles commented, "It's rare for Isaac to meet a kindred spirit."
Danny gave him an inquisitive look. "But the two of you discusses a great many things together. Although perhaps not on proper omega conduct."
Stiles laughed at his friend's gentle teasing. "Oh no, I didn't mean books. As much as Isaac enjoys reading, there is nothing in the world that he loves more than bestriding a horse."
"You and your older brother do not have similar passion?"
"I enjoy the exercise and fresh air as much as the next person," Stiles said with a shrug. "I suspect I'd greatly enjoy riding a phaeton if the occasion ever arises--"
Danny made a noise of agreement.
"Scott--our oldest brother--is a natural with horses and has a good bottom, but neither of us is horse-mad the way Isaac is."

His aunt was not a temperamental alpha, exactly, but like his late father she was rather high-strung. Unlike her brother, she cared enough about public opinion to present a calm and collected demeanor.
"Genim, how good of you to come," Victoria said, clasping his lower arms in greeting. "Your cousin and I are very happy to see you."
Stiles was very much touched to find that she meant every word. After his mother's death, his aunt was the only one who called him by his given name.
"My dear aunt, I have come at last," Stiles said warmly. "Isaac was sorry he had to decline your generous invitation. His studies, you see—"
She gave him a perfunctory smile. They both knew that Isaac would rather be anywhere else than London.

Not half an hour after Derek took his leave, Lord Davenant returned from his business errand.
"I heard you had a visitor while I was away," Danny said as he entered the room.
Isaac's face lit up at Danny’s arrival. "It was our neighbour, Mr Hale."
"Ah. The esteemed Theodore Hale." There was a wealth of meaning behind that utterance, and Stiles would have asked Danny to elaborate, except Isaac was already talking a mile a minute.
Danny had invited Isaac to call him by name, but Isaac was nothing if not painfully proper. Stiles also had to admit the ridiculousness of a boy Isaac's age calling Danny anything other than "Davenant."

Snippet of Styals, a Single Omega
Nearly two weeks had passed since Isaac’s accident and his conveyance to the Priory. In the course of several dinners and comfortable hours together, Stiles and Lord Davenant had found a friend in each other.
This afternoon, Stiles was taking a leisurely stroll in the gardens with his friend. He brought up something that had been puzzling him. Even though Nurse could not sing praises enough for Danny, Danny’s own housekeeper brimmed with thinly veiled disapproval.
"From the way she acted, one would think you regularly host week-long orgies at the Priory."
Danny chuckled.
"And I know you don’t," Stiles continued, "because you would not host a social gathering and neglect to invite your newfound friend." He waved an arm over himself.
Danny let out a short burst of laughter. "Of course! That would be—reprehensible of me."

Soichirou slid open the door to classroom 1-A with a cheerful "Good morning!" Sometimes Stiles envied his friend’s easygoing nature.
Several of the boys in their class responded with "morning"s. It was like any other day in classroom 1-A.
And, like any other day, Stiles noticed that Minami Lydia looked like a million dollars with her perfectly styled hair and her spotless uniform.
"Morning, class rep," he said with an awkward little wave, setting his satchel and bento box down on his desk.
"Good morning." Lydia bestowed them with a queenly smile before turning back to her group of friends-slash-admirers.

"Oh dear, you have allowed your garden to grow into a wilderness! Only look at those rose-trees!" The rambling rose-trees looked as if they haven’t been pruned for years.
"Shall I set a man on to attend to them? Will that please you?" Danny asked.
"I wish you will. It would make such a delightful garden," Stiles said with no trace of self-consciousness. "How very odd, to be sure!"
"My wanting to please a beautiful omega?" Danny replied with a twinkle in his eyes.
A hint of flush touched Stiles’ cheeks. "No, silly! I was puzzling over your housekeeper. Her husband seemed perfectly satisfied in your employ, and yet she positively brimmed with disapproval."

Soichirou reached up and rubbed Stiles' crew-cut. "You're freakishly tall...and you're a good kid." They sat there, petting each other's head. Their classmates showed no reaction to the usual S squared weirdness.
"Your hair is really soft," Soichirou commented. "Like a hamster."
"...yeah?"
"Yeah."
Stiles rubbed hard.
"Stiles!"
"Well your floppy hair is soft like a puppy's." Stiles made kissy faces at Soichirou.
Soichirou finger-combed his fringe out of his face. "Like that puppy at Station D's pet store?"
"Exactly like."
Soichirou grinned goofily.

"I cannot understand how she can disapprove of you, a gentleman of quality."
"No, am I?" Danny asked with mock gravity.
"Everything handsome about you—your face, your name, your dress, and your manners!"
"My tailor Armand would be glad of the compliment," Danny demurred. "And you forget to mention my towering alpha physique."
"How could I forget?" Stiles grinned. Danny was taller than Scott, but not by much. He was around Derek’s height, Stiles thought, but Derek was broader.
"Do you know why she dislikes you so?" If Stiles possessed one constant character trait, it was his inability to let go. He knew better—at least, in polite company—than to pursue a matter relentlessly, but among family and friends he had the habit of saying precisely what he was thinking.

Danny's head was down, and he was quiet for long enough that Stiles almost apologized for asking the question. When he opened his mouth to beg his pardon, Danny spoke up.
"All those qualities you spoke of do not matter in the light of my unnatural existence." He spoke lightly, but there was a hard note in his voice.
Stiles was deeply shocked. "She called you unnatural?"
Danny shrugged. "She didn’t have to. Enough people share her opinion."
"What an infamous thing to think! Idiotish, too! To blame you for an indiscretion that your mother might or might not have committed in the past—how stupid is that?"
Danny looked at him, queerly smiling. "Stiles, what do you think I was referring to?"

Stiles paused and turned the words over in his head. "What spiteful gossips said—about your parents’ stay in France the year prior to your birth." That was direct enough without casting aspersions on his friend’s legitimacy.
"Honesty compels me to say that my mother’s friend was a quarter-chinoise," Danny remarked, unperturbed. "But no, I was referring to something that happened a lot later…two decades later. It had nothing to do with my parents and everything to do with my own failings."
When Stiles offered him no response, Danny said, "What unrepeatable stories do they tell of me? Surely you've heard the one where I ran off with a married omega."
"None that were told me, I assure you!" Back then he was a young omega not even out of the schoolroom.
"Everyone knows it, and also that the news of my elopement caused my father to suffer a stroke, which proved fatal several weeks later."
Stiles turned towards him, amber eyes wide.
"The truth is at once less and more shocking. My lover was not married but was in a courtship. And here comes the shocking part—he was not an omega, but an alpha like myself."

"That is so—but, how?" Stiles stammered.
"How two alpha men can be together?" Danny teased. "Or did you mean how the rumors had it wrong on multiple counts?"
Stiles was glad to see that Danny did not seem upset. "I know several different positions for two alpha men to come together."
Danny choked with laughter.
"Theoretically, of course," Stiles demurred.
"Yes, of course. How could I ever think otherwise?"
"So how did the rumors have it so wrong?" Stiles pressed on.
"It was something straight out of Shakespeare’s plays—a case of mistaken identity! My lover happened to have a twin brother who is a married omega. They are not identical—one being half a head taller than the other—but when we were discovered together, it did not cross anyone’s mind that he could have been anyone but the omega twin."

"Exactly like." Danny said, as if he could hear Stiles’ thoughts.
"Does that make you the cuckolded sea captain?" Stiles wondered.
Silence, then: "It seems I must have been!"
"I beg your pardon, I shouldn’t have said that! I apologize for being so provoking."
He saw that a bittersweet melancholy had now visited Lord Davenant’s visage.
"Oh, no. Who could blame him for going along with the misunderstanding? When his brother cared for him so much to let the damaging rumor stand uncorrected. His brother’s wife knew the correct measure of it, of course."

It all began when someone left the window open,
spelling out "goodbye."
119 words
Snippet from Styals, a Single Omega
Stiles thought Danny’s lover must not have much love for his brother to let him blacken his reputation in such manner. An omega—even a married one—suffered much harsher censure from society compared to alphas and betas. He knew Scott would not dream of having blame laid on his younger brothers’ feet.
"Do you know?" Danny began. "I was the idiot who left the window open that day. My lover, lovable fool that he was, had no sense of discretion. I had to remind him time and again to not be affectionate outside of our circles. And yet on that day, I did not think to check the window. We did not even get to say our good-byes."
