Chess board courtesy of [personal profile] clairshadows. Prompts by [personal profile] benebu.

This game is also posted on livejournal, here. You may play on either site.

The goal of Writing Game is not to make multiple rounds around the board, but to accumulate as many points as possible.

You may switch fandoms/worlds whenever you first pass 20 points, 40, 60, 70, 80, 90, 100, 105, 110, 115, 120, then free for all.
e.g. Total points: 19. Complete a +3 prompt.
This brings you to 22 points. At this point you may switch fandoms/worlds.

There will be no post secret this week

On this board, your movements depend not on the point value of the prompt but on what chess piece you are playing at that moment. Roll the dice to determine your chess piece.

Exceptions:
1a) You are at a Player’s Choice square. Move up, right, down or left according to the point value of the prompt(s).
1b) If the PC square's point value exceeds the board's limits, you should stay in the same column or the same row.
e.g. You're on the red PC square between R and G, going "Up" 3 squares. You stay in the same column but go back to the bottom line, arriving at H square.

2) When skipping a prompt, a pawn may move backwards as many squares as the point value of the prompt.

3) When a pawn reaches the top row (the C-A-PC-J-K-F-B-Q row), it turns into a queen.

Chess piece rules, courtesy of [profile] elalone:
1 - King: You may move one square in any direction.
2 - Queen: You may move any number of squares, in any direction.
3 - Rook: You may move any number of squares, either horizontally or vertically, but not diagonally.
4 - Bishop: You may move any number of squares diagonally, but not horizontally or vertically.
5 - Knight: You may move two squares vertically and one horizontally, or two squares horizontally and one vertically (L-shape)
6 - Pawn: You may move only up. On your first move, you may go one or two squares. Afterwards, you may only move one square at a time.

All the general rules can be found in the user profile. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Home Roll the dice to determine your chess piece:
1 - king, 2 - queen, 3 - rook, 4 - bishop, 5 - knight, and 6 - pawn.

Picture Square. Roll the dice to determine your next chess piece. You may roll the dice again if you get the same chess piece. Move according to your chess piece, not the point value of the prompt(s).

You may use up to two of them, as long as they’re touching each other (either top to bottom or side to side).

All prompts for this table are quotes from Henry James's Roderick Hudson.

Roderick Hudson +2 each
rather in a truth-speaking vein I am not young; I have never been young! You can't break a ray of moonshine
like half ripened plums, only good eating on the side that has had a glimpse of the sun befriend him by stealth dropping stones in her soul and waiting to hear them fall
put up prayers for fair winds I might as well be in love here as in the streets seen before in a goddess, but never in a woman
foredoomed to moulder and crumble and become dust no such thing as to-morrow like diagrams of human nature
I am corrupt, corrupting, corruption! a chronic heartache the sort of man one makes one's hero of

Yay I love the rules you've made :)

Fandom: Harry Potter
Prompt: N - Nimble +2
Word count: 62
Total Score: 2

Neville Longbottom wouldn't have exactly called himself nimble, he'd always been an awkward child, his mind and body at a disconnect, however just as a fragile sapling thickens; grows bark and becomes strong. Neville was becoming body confident, quick thinking and firm minded; the war demanded it.

Neville leaped to the next half blasted wooden step silently, confident in his own body and mind.

Hey! Didn't know you moved to Dreamwidth =)

Glad you like the chess board rules; it took awhile (and some help) to hammer out, since neither [personal profile] benebu or I play chess.

Going from N to V
Fandom: Harry Potter (AU I guess - what if the battle of Hogwarts had progressed differently)
Prompt: V - Veggie +2
Word count: 68
Total Score: 4

Ron absently filled his plate with mash and veggies and sat down beside Hermione in the room of requirement. With Voldermort's siege of Hogwarts passing into it's third month and his hold on Europe growing ever larger meat had become hard to come by. Ron missed sausages, but at least with Professor Sprouts gardens there wasn't likely to be a real food shortage.

"Hey, 'mione want a carrot?"

Going from V to L
Fandom: Harry Potter
Prompt: L - Lash(es) +2
Word count: 109
Total Score: 6

Harry knelt on the window seat and pressed sleepily against the cool glass of the Gryffindor dormitory window his own glasses clinking gently as he stared out over Hogwart's grounds and watched the owls hunt; dark shadows swooping across the night sky, moonlight fanning through their feathers when they hovered. Like a dance Harry thought sleepily his mind seeing women in full embroidered dresses and men in black suits sweeping in orchestrated circles across wooden floors, the flair of the women's fans the downward sweep of their eye-lashes, and the men's posturing worthy of a Malfoy. Harry smiled to himself and went back to trying to pick out Hedwig.

This board is now closed.
